Greek

Greek was Mark-Anthony Turnage’s retelling of the Oedipus myth. Based on the original play by Stephen Berkoff, Greek was premiered in collaboration with the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2017. In February 2018, the production was performed at The Theatre Royal, Glasgow, to further critical acclaim.

The creative team included the exciting young director Joe Hill-Gibbons, designer Johannes Schütz and the critically lauded Scottish Opera Music director, Stuart Stratford.

In its co-production with Scottish Opera, it will now tour to Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and other opera houses around the world.

The Opera Ventures and Scottish Opera co-production of Greek, presented at the Edinburgh International Festival 5 and 6 August 2017, was made possible by generous support from:

  • The Howard and Sarah Solomon Foundation
  • Denise Coates Foundation

And with many thanks for funding from:

  • The KT Wong Foundation
  • The Boltini Trust
